Lecture in the PCMA Research Centre in Cairo: Tell el-Retaba before, during and after the New Kingdom.

The PCMA Research Centre in Cairo has the pleasure of inviting you to a lecture from the PolAr lecture series (Polish Archaeology in Mediterranean) by Professor Sławomir Rzepka

"Tell el-Retaba before, during and after the New Kingdom. Results of the Polish-Slovak  Archaeological Mission"

which will be held at 6 p.m., on Sundey, 16th of October, 2016 at the Research Centre in Cairo 11, Mahalla St., Heliopolis

Since 2007 the Polish-Slovak Archaeological Mission has been exploring the archaeological site of Tell el-Retaba located in the middle of Wadi Tumilat. The first settlers there were the Hyksos during the Second Intermediate Period. After their expulsion, an Egyptian settlement existed there in the early New Kingdom. The strategic location of the site, on a route linking Egypt with Sinai and Syria-Palestine, is the reason for building there strong fortifications in the Ramesside times. After the New Kingdom the fortifications were abandoned, but a settlement existed throughout the Third Intermediate Period and the Late Period.
