The PCMA Research Centre in Cairo has the pleasure of inviting you to a lecture from the PolAr lecture series (Polish Archaeology in Mediterranean) by Dr Karel Innemée

A memorial for Abbot Maqari of Deir al-Surian.
which will be held at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, 6th of December, 2016 at the Research Centre in Cairo 11, Mahalla St., Heliopolis.

Abstract

During recent work in the church of the Holy Virgin in Deir al-Surian a new discovery has been made of mural paintings that form a funerary monument for one of the abbots, Maqari, from the town of Tiqrit. The style, iconography and exact dating of these paintings add an interesting paragraph to the history of Christian painting in Egypt.
