Gold Cross of Merit for Dr. Mounir Atallah

Dr. Mounir Attalah has been awarded the Polish Gold Cross of Merit for his contribution to developing scientific and cultural cooperation between Lebanon and Poland.

A graduate of the University of Warsaw Institute of Archaeology, Dr Attalah, who also holds a PhD from the University of Warsaw and is currently a professor of the Institute of Fine Arts at the Lebanese University, has been a close associate and friend of Polish archaeologists and conservators working in Lebanon under the auspices of the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw (Hellenistic and Roman sites at Chhîm and Jiyeh) and the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Works Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (medieval church painting in Kaftun and others). The ceremony took place at the Polish Embassy in Beirut on 27 September 2013.

In another ceremony held on 4 October 2013 at the Polish Embassy in Beirut, Prof. Lévon Nordiguian and Prof. Nada Helou were awarded the Gloria Artis silver and bronze medals respectively for their contribution to developing Polish-Lebanese cultural and scientific cooperation. Prof. Nordiguian and Prof. Helou have both been long associated with the Polish archaeological and conservation missions working in Lebanon and have contributed significantly to studies of the ancient heritage of Lebanon uncovered and conserved by Polish specialists from the PCMA UW and the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts.
