IFAO –PCMA POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN CAIRO AWARDED

The Institut français d’archéologie orientale (IFAO) and the Polish Center of Mediterranean Archaeology, Research Center in Cairo (RC PCMA) awarded a 15-months Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Cairo to Dr. Mennat-Allah el-Dorry.

Dr. Mennat-Allah el-Dorry specializes in archaeobotanical analysis, particularly foodways and diets. She published several works on wine production and consumption in Egyptian monasteries. She has experience in organizing conferences and workshops, e.g. International Workshop on African Archaeobotany (Cairo, 2009), conferences on Coptic Studies (Stevenage, UK, 2013 and 2015). She works in the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.

Dr. Mennat-Allah el-Dorry, whose application gained recognition for its excellent approach, will organize an international conference titled: Feeding Civilisation: Approaches to Studying Food and Drink in Egypt and Sudan. As she states, the conference will tackle food and drink throughout history from multi- and interdisciplinary angles, including texts, archaeological structures, archaeobotany, archaeozoology, artistic depictions and archaeological finds.

The conference will take place in Cairo in late Spring 2018. Following the conference, Dr Mennat-Allah el-Dorry will be in charge of the edition of the proceedings and submitting the manuscript for approval by a joint IFAO–RC PCMA editorial committee.

The fellowship and the conference mark 80 years of French–Polish cooperation in archaeology. The awarding committee included Dr. Laurent Bavay, the director of the Institut français d’archéologie orientale, Prof. Tomasz Waliszewski, the director of the PCMA, and Dr. Artur Obłuski, the director of the PCMA Research Centre in Cairo.
